If it’s not broken, don’t fix it, and if it smells bad, it’s probably just Patrick Mahomes’ lucky pair of underwear.
There’s no doubt that the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs is a future hall of famer. At just 28-years-old, Mahomes is already a two-time Super Bowl champion, and through his first five years, he has already thrown for more passing yards and touchdowns than 9 Hall of Fame quarterbacks.

In the current NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs haven’t looked like the offensive juggernaut they’ve been known to be, but their talented defense has helped hide some of those offensive woes. Mahomes is still putting up respectable QB numbers, but it’s not his best season by any means.
I’d guess the whole romantic story involving his teammate Travis Kelce and pop star Taylor Swift has garnered the most attention and taken some of the heat off of Patrick.
But with that being said, a recent report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter shows that Patrick Mahomes is interested in getting back into the spotlight. The topic might not be something he’s super proud of, but it will definitely get him back into the media cycle with Swift and Kelce’s latest Argentina escapade.
Schefter is always there to report the sports world’s biggest breaking news, and he did that today when he let the world know that Patrick Mahomes has only worn one paid of underwear for his entire NFL career, and only washes them “every once in a while.”
I don’t care what kind of superstition you have, that’s just plain gross.
It’s hard not to respect Patrick Mahomes, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. This piece of information is hard to look past though, and I’m sure a lot of people will now only be able to think about how one of the NFL’s best and brightest stars changes plays at the line of scrimmage more often than he changes his underwear.
Mahomes actually revealed the bad hygienic practice when he was a guest on ESPN’s Manningcast for Monday Night Football. Peyton and Eli Manning were floored when Patrick admitted that he only wears the one pair of undergarments when he takes the field. He explained:
“My wife Brittany got them for me. I’m not throwing you all down, but I have to wear them, you know? At the same time, I threw them on that first season, (and) we had a pretty good season.
I only wear them for game day though, so they’re not too worn down. They’re not like these nasty… I clean them. I wash them. I wash them every once in a while, at least. If we’re on a hot streak, I can’t wash them. I’ve gotta just keep it rolling.”
