Happy Monday, y’all.

Today for the Song of the Week, we have a new one from Morgan Wade called “Losers Look Like Me,” from her recently released sophomore studio album Pyschopath.

A solo write by Morgan, this one certainly leans into her more rock and roll sensibilities on the production, as she reflects on being young and blissfully naive to the world:

“We said we wouldn’t get jobs and we’d burn our bras
We wouldn’t turn out nothing like our moms
I didn’t, but I wish I did
We all got drunk and we all got laid
Drove the Ford to the levy, said fuck the Chevrolet
My friends grew up, and my friends had kids”

Morgan also admits that she wants to go back to being 16 again for the sheer innocence and ignorance when she didn’t “know the world was so damn mean,” and I think most of us can certainly relate to that.

There’s something so infectious about the electric guitar and production on this one, and coupled with the funny, introspective and relatable lyrics, has been at the top of my playlist for the past week and a half or so.

I actually really like that the production is a bit of a departure for her and does sound more along the lines of songs on Psychopath like “80’s Movie” and “Fall In Love With Me,” which I’ll be honest, definitely weren’t my favorites on the overall-stellar 13-song tracklist.

There’s just something about this one, though, and the more 80’s heartland rock feel that sounds like “Losers” could’ve been featured on The Breakfast Club or some movie like that.

I know Morgan often cites rock artists equally as much as, if not more than, country artist in terms of her biggest musical inspirations, and I think this song if a perfect blend of all of those styles an
