Dolly was serious about not wanting to get involved in anything political.

On her recently-released debut rock single “World on Fire,” Dolly Parton decries current state of our political climate and the “greedy politicians” who are more worried about winning elections than helping people:

“Don’t get me started on politics
Now how are we to live in a world like this?
Greedy politicians, present and past
They wouldn’t know the truth if it bit ’em in the ass”

The country music legend has long avoided jumping into politics, preferring to focus on helping people versus getting in the mud and making political statements.

Back in 2021, Dolly revealed that she had even turned down the Presidential Medal of Freedom from former President Donald Trump – twice.

The medal, which is presented to recipients  “who have made exceptional contributions to the security or national interests of America, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors,” sounds like it’s an honor that perfectly describes Dolly Parton.

But it’s one that she doesn’t want – and when she turned Trump down, it had nothing to do with politics:

“I couldn’t accept it because my husband was ill and then they asked me again about it and I wouldn’t travel because of COVID.”

Now, she’s turned it down from President Biden too.

During an interview with The Today Show, Dolly discussed why she stays out of politics – and why she’s not calling out one party over the other:

“I don’t think any of them are trying hard enough…I just really think often that they worry about their party more than they do about the people.

If we just do what we felt was the right thing rather than who’s going to lose or who’s going to win this or who’s gonna look better if they do this, rather than working from the heart.”

Host Jacob Soboroff also revealed that Dolly turned down the Presidential Medal of Freedom from our current president:

“She said, ‘I just don’t want even the appearance of being partisan in any way.'”

Seems like Dolly is serious about staying out of politics.

And let’s be honest: At this point, does a medal really even mean anything to Dolly? She’s already a legend, and she doesn’t need any president to tell us that.
