FINALLY.
After six long years without new music from the Turnpike Troubadours, they announced this morning that a new album is officially on the way called A Cat In The Rain.
If you head to their website, you’ll see the release date for the new record is August 25th, and it also states that the lead single “Mean Old Sun” will be out everywhere this Friday, May 5th.
This is about as close to the feeling you have on Christmas morning as a child that you can get to as an adult, I’m pretty sure…
The Oklahoma-based band was of course on a hiatus for several years, and as soon as they got back together and started playing shows again last year, the obvious next question was, ‘When are they going to release a new album?’
Turnpike put out their last official studio record A Long Way from Your Heart in 2017, and fans (myself included) have been dying to know when new music was coming for quite some time now.
They’ve been teasing a new single “Mean Old Sun” for a few weeks, and even played it at Stagecoach over the weekend, and it’s a classic Evan Felker penned-tune that’s a self-revealing tale of hard times, survival, and pure persistence through and through.

While I think we all know the band has been through quite a bit since they decided to take a break due to frontman Evan Felker’s issues with alcohol, he is back and healthier than ever now, which is the most important thing, of course.
And knowing that they’re all seemingly in a much better place, it will make listening to this new music and seeing them out on the road even more enjoyable.
All feels right in the world again knowing that a new Turnpike album is on the way, and to say I’m excited to hear the new music would be a colossal understatement.
