Matthew McConaughey Says A Fortune Teller Convinced Him To Take The ‘How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days’ Role

Matthew McConaughey

We all know Matthew McConaughey as one of the most famous and well respected actors on the planet.

Seriously, the guy is arguably the most versatile actor on the planet, and can play any role put in front of him. From rom-coms, to sports movies, suspense-thrillers, dramas, action movies, and even a country music video for Trisha Yearwood’s “Walkaway Joe,” the guy has done just about anything and everything throughout his career.

However, there’s one movie in particular that truly put him on the map for good, and it was the 2003 smash hit rom-com, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

But, little did we know that McConaughey was contemplating even doing it at all…

And we can thank a fortune teller for his decision to take the role.

He sat down for an interview with Vanity Fair to discuss the movie, and revealed the wild story:

“I remember considering whether I was going to do it or not one night while on a walk down Sunset Boulevard. Suddenly, this guy comes up out of nowhere to me — he was a fortune teller guru [and] goes, ‘Can I tell you your fortune real quick?’

There’s a movie you’re considering right now. It’s a romantic comedy. You have to do this or it will be one of the biggest regrets of your life. It is going to be a blast, it is going to be an incredible experience and it is going to make a bunch of money.'”

Of course, looking back on it now he believes that somebody from the studio hired somebody to pull the stunt, just to convince him to take the role, but at the time he full on took it as a sign:

“I laughed at the thought, but I also remember taking a more serious consideration, I think I even accepted the offer the next day.”

So, I guess we can all thank a fortune teller for all of McConaughey’s massive success over the years…

Or a paid Hollywood actor.
