Lord, talk about goosebumps.

The 2022 CMA Awards, surprisingly, featured a few high notes this year. It may just be because expectations are so low for these awards shows, but when they give us performances paying tribute to Loretta Lynn and Alan Jackson, along with songs from Carly Pearce, Cody Johnson, and Ashley McBryde and Brandy Clark, there was actually plenty to like about this year’s awards ceremony.

Were there low points? Absolutely. Thomas Rhett’s performance with Katy Perry comes to mind…

But then there was this high point that may have been the best performance of the night.

Chris Stapleton teamed up with another country legend, Patty Loveless, along with his wife Morgane, to pay tribute to their home state of Kentucky after the state was devastated by flooding earlier this year.

And their performance of “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive” had the entire room – and everybody watching at home – with their jaws on the floor.

It was by far the highlight of what turned out to be a pretty good show. And it’s not the first time the two Kentucky natives have have teamed up to benefit their home state.

Last month, Stapleton and Loveless joined the lineup of Kentucky Rising, a benefit show for flood relief, to perform a duet of Patty Loveless’ classic, “You Don’t Even Know Who I Am.”

I wouldn’t be mad to get some more duets from these two.

Here’s their duet of “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive” from the Kentucky Rising benefit show:

I don’t know what they put in the water in Kentucky (if I had to guess I’d say it’s bourbon), but damn do they produce some good country music singers.
