Dolly Parton Releases Statement On Passing Of Her “Special Friend” Olivia Newton-John: “So Happy That Our Lives Crossed Paths”

Dolly Parton is paying tribute to her late friend, Olivia Newton-John.

Sadly, Olivia passed away yesterday morning at the age of 73 after a decades-long battle with breast cancer, which her husband John Easterling shared in a statement on her social platforms.

He also confirmed that she passed away peacefully at her ranch in Southern California:

Of course, people across the world are mourning her death, especially her family and close friends. Her Grease co-star John Travolta shared a very sweet message about her yesterday on Instagram, referring to himself as “her Danny” and saying that she “made all of our lives so much better.”

And a little while ago, Dolly’s team posted a statement from the country legend, where she kept her message short and sweet, along with a simple “heart” emoji as her caption:

“So sad to have lost my special friend Olivia Newton-John.

So happy that our lives crossed paths. I know her voice is singing beautifully with the angels. With love, Dolly.”

Dolly and Olivia go way back, and you can see them pictured below at the afterparty for Dolly’s 1977 show at the Bottom Line in New York, New York:

Olivia also recorded an awesome version of Dolly’s “Jolene” for her 1976 seventh studio album Come On Over:

Dolly’s sister Stella also recorded a song titled “Ode To Olivia,” after a number of country music artists were vocally opposed to her winning the 1974 CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Awards.
