Lukas Nelson Posts Sweet Tribute To His Late Aunt, Bobbie Nelson

Willie Nelson Country Music

Willie Nelson said goodbye to his longtime pianist and sister, Bobbie Nelson, on Thursday morning.

She passed away at the age of 91, though an official cause of death has yet to be revealed.

Willie (and his team) released a sweet tribute to her on Instagram on Friday, saying in part that she was his first official band member and will be very deeply missed as a pillar of their family:

“Her elegance, grace, beauty and talent made this world a better place.”

And today Willie’s son, Lukas Nelson, posted his own touching tribute to his aunt on Instagram, along with a photo of the book that Willie and Bobbie wrote together, Me and Sister Bobbie: True Tales of The Family Band. They also penned a collaborative children’s book, Sister, Brother, Family: An American Childhood in Music.

Lukas talked about how important his Aunt Bobbie was as a mother figure in his life, also adding that she was the most incredible person he knew and that he will miss her very much:

“To truly understand the loss our family has gone through recently… to understand what a monumental figure my Aunt Bobbie Nelson was in all of our lives, and why, pick up this book.

The audio is narrated by her and my father Willie Nelson… it’s a relationship that spans 88 years… a story of the realest love.. she was the most incredible person I knew.

A literal angel… I will miss her. Love, Lukas.”

Last year, Willie also released a collaborative album titled, The Willie Nelson Family, featuring Lukas and his other son Micah, his daughter, Paula and Amy, as well as his sister Bobbie.

RIP Bobbie.
