The son of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt officially joined his dad in the NASCAR Hall of Fame last night with an emotional speech reflecting on his time in the sport and what being honored in the Hall of Fame means to him.
“The people enshrined in this building, they are my role models, and they are my heroes, and one of them happens to be my dad so to join Dad in the Hall of Fame is probably as good as it’s going to get…”
The younger Earnhardt obviously never had the success on the track that his dad had, but the impact he had on the sport’s meteoric rise in popularity during the early 2000s, as well as his popularity with fans (he won the Most Popular Driver award 15 years in a row), made him an obvious choice to take a spot in the Hall of Fame next to Earnhardt Sr.
And he still remains one of the most well-liked and respected members of the NASCAR garage area, something that was obvious from all the messages of congratulations he received from both current and former drivers after his induction.
I had so much fun catching up with my old friends las night @NASCARHall Congratulations to @DaleJr Red Farmer and Mike Stefanik on being inducted. Truly heroes of our sport. If you have never been to the @NASCARHall it’s a must see. It’s our history.
Really excited about the class of inductees for this years @NASCARhall ceremony. Obviously I’m super excited for the boss man @DaleJr, there’s no one I can think of more deserving. And Red and Mike are staples in the racing community and am so glad they are being put in. https://t.co/mV2R6u48pH
A legends son that made his own way to Stardom. A Modified ace, and a guy that shows us all still today what a true grit racer really is. We’re all proud that these heroes are going into the @NASCARHall.
So extremely happy for @DaleJr on this induction day … a man that through great times and extremely difficult times .. never changed who he was and how he treated people .. as grounded and humble as any superstar I’ve ever been around .. congrats my man ..
Congratulations, @DaleJr, on your induction into the @NASCARHall. From 26 Cup Series wins, including two Daytona 500 victories, to 15 consecutive Most Popular Driver awards – your legacy is undeniable.
Exciting night tonight watching my buddy @DaleJr get inducted into the @NASCARHall. His efforts and impact both on and off the track could not be more deserving of this honor. Not to mention I’m confident he is far from finished writing legacy. Congrats my friend. pic.twitter.com/D0l13KyKD5
