A thousand bucks for a concert ticket? STEEP.
According to ABC News, a concert promoter in Florida is “encouraging” music fans to get vaccinated by charging a whopping $999.99 bucks to anybody that isn’t vaccinated.
If you are vaccinated however, the concert will only run you $18, $20 if you buy them at the door. The concert, featuring three punk bands: Teenage Bottlerocket, MakeWar and Rutterkin, is set for late June.
Paul Williams of Leadfoot Promotions in Tampa Bay, Florida, said the move was intended to get people off the fence:
“I also wanted it to be a vaccine drive to get the fence-sitters off the fence. I wanted to get the kids that want to go to shows to go out and get their shots.”
And shocker… nobody has purchased a thousand dollar ticket yet.
Despite a bit of backlash, Williams said the reaction has been “overwhelmingly positive.”
However, according to Teenage Bottlerocket bass player Miguel Chen, the band itself has seen a ton of hate mail.
“We’ve gotten a lot of hate mail… a lot of very angry people. And I think a lot of people boycotting our shows who had never heard of our band or would never come to our show to begin with.”
The show will be the only one to offer the vaccine discount.
Of course, Ticketmaster flirted with the idea of a vaccine requirement for tickets back in November of last year, but ultimately released a statement clarifying that it would be up to the local organizers to handle those policies.
The statement went on to explain:
“There is absolutely no requirement from Ticketmaster mandating vaccines/testing for future events. Unfortunately, this has been widely reported and is incorrect.
Ticketmaster does not have the power to set policies around safety/entry requirements, which would include vaccines and/or testing protocols.
That would always be up to the discretion of the event organizer, based on their preferences and local health guidelines.”
