We’ve been blessed with some solid country music voices this year in both American Idol and The Voice. As shocking as it is, there’s been a decent amount of traditional country… way better than most years.
A lot of that starts with Voice contestant Kenzie Wheeler.
Arguably the most recognizable contestant with the old school country get up, and a mullet from out of this world, he’s found himself in the top nine of the show (gotta bit of an OG Blake Shelton look going).
We’ve already seen some impressive performances from him with covers like “Red Dirt Road“ and “Don’t Close Your Eyes.“
The 20-year-old Dover, Florida, native chose George Jones‘ legendary song, “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” and needless to say, he blew the song outta the water.
When he hits the “He stopped loving her today” in the chorus, it’s apparent how damn good he is for such a young dude.
He wrapped it up with some stellar notes, impressing his coach Kelly Clarkson, who you can hear her screaming at the top of her lungs in the background.
It’ll be interesting to see if he can finish the show out strong and win the whole damn thing.
