For whatever reasons, we tend to see a lot of country music stars get married and divorced. Whether it’s cheating, the toll from a life on the road, or simply just falling out of love, we’ve seen it a bunch.

Some of them are a lot more costly than others, and when I’m saying costly, I mean A TON of money. Yahoo Finance recently did a search on the most expensive divorces, and needless to say, I was shocked.

Let’s take a look back at the most expensive divorces the country music world has ever seen.

1. Kacey Musgraves & Ruston Kelly

Kacey Musgraves is one of the most loved female country artists in the game right now, and Kelly is a well known singer/songwriter in Nashville as well. They got hitched in 2017, but we saw the two call it quits back in 2020. With Musgraves net worth somewhere north of $5 million, it wasn’t one of the most expensive divorces in terms of pure dollars, but she got to keep a 84.4% from of the sale of their martial home. Ruston got the rest. Ouch…

2. Blake Shelton & Miranda Lambert

This was perhaps the most well-known relationship in all of country music back in the late 2000s and 2010s. As a successful singer and co-host on “The Voice,” Shelton is one of of the most wealthy artists in all of country music. And Miranda? Well she’s not doing too bad herself. They split their shared assets, and Lambert took the property in Nashville, while Shelton got the Oklahoma ranch.

3. Reba McEntire & Narvel Blackstock

Reba is by far one of the most famous artists in all of country music. She was married to her manager Narvel Blackstock for sixteen years, spanning from 1989 to 2015. With a monster net worth of $102 million, she settled with Blackstock for a mind numbing $47.5 million.

4. Shania Twain & Robert John “Mutt” Lange

Shania Twain is one of the richest people in all of country music. With a net worth of $420 million, only Dolly Parton and Toby Keith have more money than Shania. She was married to “Mutt” Lange for 14 years, however, in 2008, Shania found out that Lange had been cheating with one of her closest friends, Marie-Anne Thiebaud. They divorced in 2010, but she got sweet revenge in 2011 by marrying Thiebaud’s ex-husband, Frederic. As a very successful record producer, Lange already had a ton of money as well so the divorce didn’t necessarily break the bank.

5. Garth Brooks & Sandy Mahl

Before Garth and Trisha, there was Garth and Sandy, his college sweetheart.

The couple married in 1986, but divorced in 2000 after he met Trisha. In one of the most expensive divorces in country music history, the country superstar paid Mahl a whopping $125 million in the divorce settlement. You know, just some pocket change for Garth.

Brooks has been married to Trisha Yearwood since 2005 and they recently released a cover of Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s “Shallow.”
