YellowstoneSeason 4 is right around the corner (possibly a June release), and a number of spinoffs are on the way as well including a prequel titled Y:1883 which will tell the origin story of the Dutton Ranch, and how settlers battled their way across the great plains to make a life in the great state of Montana.
A lot of cool things are happening in the Taylor Sheridan/Yellowstone world, but until that day comes… is there anything else we can watch?
If you’re like me, you’re bored as shit right now with the television. I just re-watched Game Of Thrones for like the third time, started Peaky Blinders on flights to and from Denver and kind of got too busy to finish. I started The Crown for all of fifteen minutes when the Royal Family was in the news and lost interest, and I barely paid any attention to a the half dozen trash shows my wife has watched recently.
I’m just waiting for the return of Yellowstone.
So I got to thinking, what else is like it… at least, sorta like it?
And here we are, a handful of shows with a bit of a Western theme that you can binge on right now:
Walt Longmire is the charismatic, dedicated and unflappable sheriff of Absaroka County. Struggling since his wife’s death and at the urging of his daughter, Cady, Longmire knows that the time has come to turn his life around.
With the help of Vic, a female deputy new to the department, he becomes reinvigorated about his job and committed to running for re-election.
Longmire is currently streaming on Netflix.
U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens is a modern day nineteenth century-style lawman, enforcing his brand of justice in a way that puts a target on his back with criminals, and places him at odds with his bosses in the Marshal service.
He is reassigned to the town where he grew up in rural Kentucky, with an outlaw father who knows a lot more about who he doesn’t want to be than who he really is.
Justified is currently streaming on Hulu.
A show set in the late 1800s, revolving around the characters of Deadwood, South Dakota; a town of deep corruption and crime.
Deadwood is currently streaming on HBO Max.
In the 1880s American West, murderous outlaw gang leader Frank Griffin hunts for ex-protege Roy Goode. Frank’s chase leads him to La Belle, New Mexico–a town inhabited, after a mining disaster, almost entirely by women.
Godless is currently streaming on Netflix.
Seth Davenport appears to be a small town Iowa preacher, but he harbors ambitions of starting a full-blown insurrection against the status quo.
But he is unaware that an industrialist tycoon has hired a deadly professional strikebreaker named Creeley Turner to stop that insurrection by any means necessary. And unknown to those around them, these two men share a secret bloody past.
Damnation is currently steaming on Netflix.
A struggle for power and control set in the rugged and mysterious hills of Appalachia, “Outsiders” tells the story of the Farrell clan, a family of outsiders who’ve been in these parts since before anyone can remember.
Living off the grid and above the law on their mountaintop homestead, they’ll protect their world and defend their way of life using any means necessary.
Outsiders is currently streaming on Hulu.
Hell On Wheels
The Civil War is past, but former Confederate soldier Cullen Bohannon can’t put it behind him. Fresh are the memories of the death of his wife, killed at the hands of the Union soldiers, an act that sets him on a course of revenge.
Hell On Wheels is currently available to stream on AMC.
Definitely NOT like Yellowstone… Don’t the Montana thing fool you.
And if all else fails, just watch Yellowstone again. I mean, why the hell not?
