‘The Voice’ Contestant Draws Eric Church Comparison Singing Keith Whitley’s “I’m No Stranger To The Rain”

Love me some Keith Whitley.

The Voice contestant Jordan Matthew Young made his television debut last night, auditioning with the Keith Whitley hit, “I’m No Stranger To The Rain.”

Released in 1989, it was the fifth and final single from Whitley’s Don’t Close Your Eyes album, as well as the last single released in Whitley’s lifetime.

When the coaches got to arguing about who Jordan should pick for a coach, Blake Shelton was the obvious choice. But Blake went even further in his sales pitch, comparing Jordan’s delivery to that of Eric Church:

“There’s a lot of different genres of country music. You do some things like Eric Church… those little quick fall-off of your notes… but at the same time you got a deeper baritone-sounding voice and that gives you your own spot.

You don’t sound like anybody else in country music. I’d love to be your coach, dude.”

Whenever you’re being compared to Eric Church, you’re doin’ something right, eh?
