If you missed the Kobe Bryant memorial yesterday, you’re going to want to carve out some time to watch that, especially Michael Jordan’s tear-soaked speech. It was incredibly moving.
And even while we’re still trying to wrap our heads around the fact that Kobe is gone, along with his daughter Gianna and the 7 others that lost their lives that day, members the NASCAR community are using this weekend’s race in Fontana, California, to honor the NBA legend.
Ryan Blaney will race in a Body Armor #12 car adorned with purple and gold scales and the numbers 24 and 2 for Kobe and Gianna. Official merch appears to be in the works as well, with all proceeds going to the Mamba On Three Fund. William Byron, who drives the #24 car (Kobe’s number), is also rumored to be running a Kobe paint scheme during the race.
The NASCAR Cup Series Auto Club 400 will run this Sunday at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.
