It’s too early in the morning for me to be crying all over my computer screen, but thanks to Luke Combs’ giant heart and this sweet kid named Hutsen, here we are.
Last night, at Southeast Missouri State University’s Show Me Center, Luke Combs brought the entire arena to tears, including young Hutsen here, when he brought him up on stage and dedicated a moving performance of “This One’s For You” to him.
“I asked Hutsen when I had him, I said ‘Hey it’s pretty scary up here isn’t it?’ and he said ‘Yeah.’ And, I said ‘Do you want to stay or do you want to go?’ and he said that he wanted to stay, so I’m gonna send this one out to you tonight buddy and you’re gonna stay right here.”
Hutsen, holding his “This St. Jude Kid Loves You” sign, was visibly shaken during the performance, probably a combination of pure joy and a little stage fright, but hell if this isn’t enough to rip your heart open and fill it with love. One thing is for sure, Luke gave that kid a memory that he’ll cherish for the rest of his life.
If you’re not convinced that Luke is one of the best things to happen to country music in the past 10 years, I don’t know what else you’re looking for. The man has a heart of gold, and the talent to match.
