Michigan Baseball’s Secret To Winning Games? Kenny Chesney

With the College World Series underway, every team is looking for a competitive advantage, that little something extra to spark the clubhouse and carry them to victory.

For the #5 seed Michigan, that secret weapon is… Kenny Chesney?

“Turn Kenny on,” Wolverines outfielder Jordan Brewer told a teammate after the Wolverines upset Texas Tech this past Saturday.

“At practice Kenny’s on, on the bus Kenny’s on, in the airplane Kenny’s on, and when we’re chillin’ Kenny’s on.”

Baseball players are probably the most superstitious athletes in all of sports and if Kenny Chesney is working for Michigan right now, you can bet your ass players that don’t even like country music will be singing along to “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” at the top of their lungs if they think it’ll keep the mojo going.

After losing 5 of 7 games back in May, the team went to a Kenny Chesney concert in Nebraska and the rest was history. The Wolverines went on to win the regional, defeat #1 UCLA in the super regional, beat Texas Tech in the first game of the College World Series and also defeated Florida State last night.

“It’s crazy, isn’t it?” Brewer said. “Good ol’ Kenny.”

My Kenny Chesney walk-up song? Gotta be “Summertime.”
