Morgan Wallen out here making dreams come true.
If you remember back a few months ago, a street performer named Maurice appeared on American Idol and got a ticket to Hollywood after his performance of Morgan Wallen’s “Whiskey Glasses.”
And it turns out Maurice has a few more Morgan Wallen songs in his repertoire too. Maurice posted videos to TikTok of himself singing “Silverado For Sale,” “The Way I Talk” and several other songs from Morgan, as well as some Jon Pardi, some Luke Combs, and even Chris Stapleton.
Well those TikTok videos were enough to get the attention of none other than Morgan Wallen himself. And this weekend, Morgan invited Maurice to join him onstage at his concert in Atlanta to perform “The Way I Talk.”
Oh, and not only does he sing, but Maurice also happens to be one HELL of a trombone player too.
Pretty damn cool.
If you missed his appearance on American Idol, Maurice explained that he got into country music while bouncing around in foster care after being taken from his mother who “wasn’t really fit to be a mom.”
The last foster parent that he ended up with was a man named Curtis in South Carolina, a band director who taught Maurice to play and appreciate music.
Maurice explained that in one of his foster homes, they always played country songs – so that’s what he sings.
Seems like it’s working out pretty well for him, sharing a stage with the biggest name in country music right now. (And he even got Aaron Watson’s approval in the comments of his video).
(Not to brag though, but I was hyping up Maurice before all these guys).
Morgan Wallen Meets 12-Year-Old Who Had Been Struggling At Home
Here’s a heartwarming story for your Thursday.
About two months ago, Andrea Guidroz, a mom from Louisiana, reached out to 97.3 The Dawg in an effort to get Morgan Wallen to say some kind words for her son Brevin, who had been struggling at home and school.
Guidroz told the radio station that her son had been struggling with abandonment issues around the same time Wallen had been struggling with his own personal issues last year.
She wrote to Wallen through the radio station in an email:
“When you publicly apologized, we sat down together and watched it because YOU are someone he looks up to.
The words you said, recognizing your wrong doings, & taking accountability of your wrong doings. Your actions matter.”
However, Wallen not only shared some kind words, he came through big time.
He sent the 12-year-old some merchandise, but he also sent a note that said:
“Hey Brevin, I heard your story and wanted to say hi and to let you know I’m in your corner and proud of you. I know how tough it can be, but you are stronger than you think.
Be true to yourself and understand that nobody is perfect, but as long as we keep working on ourselves and being the best we can be, then we are on the right path.
You will succeed in whatever you put your mind to. Stay Strong!”
Last weekend, Wallen made a stop on his The Dangerous Tour in Orange Beach, Alabama.
Andrea and Brevin were there for the concert, when a woman approached the two and offered a backstage tour.
Needless to say, it was more than a backstage tour, as Wallen himself walked into the room after his mom had set the meeting up, and the two chatted away.
She wrote on her Facebook page:
“The conversation between these 2, were like they’d known each other forever. They talked music, sports, teams / players, about life — he really is just a plain ole country boy.”
Talk about a classy move from the biggest name in mainstream country music right now.
