U.S. women’s soccer legend Hope Solo was arrested in North Carolina on Thursday for driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest, all while having her two children in the car, according to TMZ.
The 40-year-old former goalkeeper, and two-time Olympic gold medalist and World Cup winner, was taken into custody in a parking lot near Parkway Village Circle in Winston-Salem, NC, and was taken to the Forsyth County jail.
Officials confirm that she was booked for DWI, resisting arrest, and misdemeanor child abuse.
This isn’t the first time Solo has had a run in with the law, as she had previously been arrested for domestic violence back in 2014, and threatening a police officer that she would “kick his ass.”
She was also arrested for getting into a physical confrontation with her teenage nephew.
Solo is married to ex-NFL player Jerramy Stevens, and they have twins together who just celebrated their second birthday.
Her attorney released the following statement:
“On the advice of counsel, Hope can’t speak about this situation, but she wants everyone to know that her kids are her life, that she was released immediately and is now at home with her family, that the story is more sympathetic than the initial charges suggest, and that she looks forward to her opportunity to defend these charges.”
