Cody Johnson Speaks His Mind About What Is “Country,” And The State Of The Genre

Last month, Cody Johnson performed for the first time at the Ryman Auditorium. He played to a sold-out crowd, giving the fans a top-notch live show, and even took a couple minutes to give his opinion on what is “country.”

He singles out the artists that came before him – legends like Patsy Cline and George Strait that paved the way. He also singles out his buddies, Dan + Shay, saying if they tried to do what he did you wouldn’t buy the music, and vice versa. He’s admittedly diplomatic in his opinion, but you know exactly where Cody Johnson stands in terms of the style of country he’s going to sing, and listen to.

Country music, and standing on that stage both really mean something to this guy.
