Luke Grimes doesn’t just think that a Dutton Ranch and Marshals crossover would be fun… the Yellowstone actor thinks it’s a necessity.
Believe it or not, we’ve already reached the conclusion of both the first seasons of Marshals and Dutton Ranch. As anticipated, the spinoffs provided monster ratings, and proved that Yellowstone fans are still chomping at the bit to see the stories of many beloved characters continue. And that they will… because Season 2 of both shows are already on the way (the sophomore season of Marshals is actually premiering in early October).
There’s a lot of excitement around the continuation of both series. Dutton Ranch is expected to get some more guidance from Taylor Sheridan for Season 2, and Marshals – after a quick turnaround from Season 1 to Season 2 – will pick up right where it left off only a few months ago.
A question that Grimes has fielded a lot in the lead up to the second season is, “Will there finally be a Dutton Ranch/Marshals crossover episode?” He’s kept things brief but hopeful for the most part… that is until he spoke with TV Insider and said that it wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense for the characters in their respective shows to never cross paths:
“It’s not out of the question that we might have some sort of crossover at some point. Beth’s basically Kayce’s only living family member other than Tate. It would make sense that down the line we’d at least talk.
(Kelly and I have) texted about it back and forth a lot, and talked about how it’d be fun and necessary for our story arcs, however they’re going to end.”
It’s really that simple.
There were a lot of fans that thought Kelly Reilly should have been worked into Season 1 of Marshals following the death of Kayce Dutton’s wife, Monica. But Reilly hypothesized in a previous interview that, because both Marshals and Dutton Ranch were trying to get their respective shows off the ground, having them cross over in Season 1 would have been complicated. Now that both spinoffs are established, Reilly has said that Season 2 could and should bring the two storylines together.
A Dutton Ranch and Marshals crossover would be a dream come true for Yellowstone fans out there. And all signs are pointing towards the people involved with both shows wanting to make it happen. It doesn’t have to be some sort of grandiose thing. Even a phone call between Kayce and Beth would suffice.
That being said, something tells me when they do the crossover (that’s right, I’m manifesting it), they’ll make it much bigger than just a phone call.
With Grimes’ latest comments, and Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser saying it should happen sooner rather than later, the count of former Yellowstone stars speaking a crossover into existence is now up to three. It feels like it’s inevitable at this point, so Yellowstone fans will have to tune in to both series to see if familiar (and familial) faces do pop back up.
If it happens in Marshals, we won’t have to wait much longer to see it (Season 2 of Dutton Ranch is still in production). Here’s the trailer for the upcoming season of Luke Grimes-led show, in case you missed it:
