Shoot your shot, I guess…
Lainey Wilson married Devlin “Duck” Hodges in May of this year, after the pair had dated for about four years. They met through mutual friends, and Lainey often talks about how supportive Duck is with her career, and they seem like a great match that have already gone through a lot of change together during the course of their relationship with Lainey’s stardom exploding.
And during a recent appearance on the Game Runs Deep podcast, Duck revealed that, because of his success with Lainey, his friends have been asking him to set them up with country music’s biggest breakout star in Miss Ella Langley.
Lainey and Ella have been friends for several years, and if you’re a country music fan at all you’ve probably seen the never-ending rumors about Ella’s dating life… her male fans call themselves “Ella Fellas,” and there’s always a ton of interest in all aspects of her personal life, as there usually is when you reach the level of success and celebrity Ella has.
And because Duck’s friends know his wife is good friends with Ella, he’s had them reaching out to him to get set up with Ella, he revealed:
“Some of my friends, they’ll get with me, and they’ll be like, ‘Dude, set me up with Ella.'”
But Duck says he feels bad because he thinks he’s given “all these guys false hope that if I did it, they can do it.”
It’s certainly not easy for any guy to land a girl like Lainey or Ella, and Duck knows that better than anybody… but it’s pretty funny to me that he admits he’s given his friends “false hope” because of landing such a queen like his wife, Lainey:
“And I felt bad because I gave all these guys false hope that if I did it, they can do it.”
Hey, I can’t say I blame them for trying…
Ella is the country it girl right now, and Duck’s wife is one of her good friends, so I feel like they’re just using their connections and who knows, maybe Duck does know a nice guy for Ella because he seems like a great one himself and Lainey speaks very highly of him.
Duck also talked some about his relationship with Lainey, saying he first heard one of her songs on the radio and decided to look her up on social media.
But it wasn’t her music career (Lainey was a much smaller artist at this time, too) that first caught his attention, and he explained that he loved that she was a country girl from Louisiana who loved riding four-wheelers and doing things like that, and luckily, he had a mutual friend who could help set him up with Lainey.
Of course, the rest, as they say, is history, and throughout their relationship, Duck has inspired several love songs, which is not something Lainey was used to writing before him, as she’s talked about before.
He says those songs are of course his favorites, even though he’s never “trying to inspire her,” she simply is inspired because of their deep and authentic love:
“I’m not trying to inspire her. She just gets inspired.”
It’s got to be cool to listen to songs like her hit “4X4XU,” and more recently “Kinda Love It,” and know that Lainey wrote them about him.
Duck is featured in the music video for “Kinda Love It,” and it’s a really sweet song that I’ve gotten stuck in my head a few times since it was released. Check it out:
