The legal troubles just keep piling up.
Controversial livestreamer Dalton Eatherly, who goes by “Chud the Builder,” has been charged with attempted murder, among other things, following a shooting outside the Montgomery County courthouse in Clarksville, Tennessee yesterday.
If you’re not familiar with Eatherly’s schtick, he’s built up a large following for his livestreams where he attempts to rage bait people in Nashville by using racial slurs and anti-Semitic language to provoke a reaction.
Several of his interactions have gone viral recently, with Eatherly claiming that he’s promoting freedom of speech as he threatens people with bear spray when they get angry.
In one viral interaction, Eatherly argued with an older white man outside of popular Broadway bar Honky Tonk Central who took issue with his use of racial slurs, and in another he directed a racial slur at a security guard outside of Barstool Nashville after being denied entry into the bar.
A real winner, clearly.
Eatherly was arrested this past weekend in Nashville for refusing to pay his bill after being kicked out of a downtown restaurant for livestreaming and hurling racial slurs. But something tells me those charges are the least of his concern right now.
Things escalated yesterday when Eatherly was involved in a shooting outside of the courthouse in his hometown of Clarksville. He was reportedly due in court for a case in which he was being sued by a debt collector. But an altercation erupted outside which resulted in Eatherly pulling a gun and apparently shooting himself in addition to another man.
Details are still coming out about the whole thing, but according to Eatherly, he approached a group of people outside of the courthouse who he claims were pointing at him.
He says after walking away a man then approached him and threatened him, and then started “wailing” on him, which is when Eatherly pulled his weapon and fired shots.
First responders could be heard on the video describing Eatherly’s injuries as a “graze” to his arm, as well as a “slight abrasion” to his head, and photos and video from the scene shows him being loaded into an ambulance. At one point Eatherly asks whether he shot himself, or whether the bullet simply grazed his arm.
The other man, identified by family as Joshua Fox, was reportedly shot in the shoulder and stomach and underwent surgery at Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville.
Eatherly, meanwhile, was treated at a hospital in Clarksville for his injuries before ultimately being arrested and charged with attempted murder as well as employing a firearm during dangerous felony, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.
According to a statement from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Eatherly was booked into jail yesterday evening and is being held pending arraignment, at which time a bond will be set. It’s not immediately clear when that will take place.
In his statement, Sheriff Joseph Fuson strongly condemned Eatherly’s actions:
“It’s unfortunate that incidents like this are happening in our community. This kind of violence won’t be tolerated, and our office will work to make sure those responsible are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
The incident is just the latest in what’s becoming a string of troubles for Eatherly, who was booked into the Davidson County Jail following the incident in Nashville over the weekend and charged with theft of services, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was later released on a $2,500 bond.
At the time of the arrest, he was already facing charges in Montgomery County for harassment from 2025. He was currently out on bond for those charges, which were recently bound over to the grand jury, meaning the district attorney (or the bonding company) could ask that his bond be revoked now that he’s picked up new charges.
Sounds like, at least for now, he’s right where he belongs.
