Don’t you wish your hunting dog could do this?

Of all the hunting dogs out there, the Labrador Retriever is often considered the best all-around hunting breed. They’re obedience and temperament are perfect for tracking and retrieving (I mean… they are literally called retrievers), and the friendly nature of labs have only helped for the breed to rise in popularity over the years.

And when you see a video of a black lab doing something like this one below, it’s only going to help boost their popularity.

There’s a 7-year-old dog named “Juice” that lives in Duson, Louisiana with his owner, Barret Fritscher. Juice is obviously a good boy, and he’s recently become an internet sensation because he’s good at something that not all other hunting dogs are good at… catching bull frogs.

Fritscher shared a video of Juice in action on his Instagram, and dog lovers and hunting enthusiasts could hardly believe how tactical and efficient the Labrador was at spotting and retrieving bull frogs. The dog owner realizes that it’s a niche skillset, and bragged about his dog in the caption of the post:

“I bet your duck dog don’t do this! He picked up about 20, but it’s hard to run the camera and the dog when you’re in the thick of it.”

That’s truly amazing to watch.

Retrieving is kind of a Labrador’s job, so watching a video of one doing just that isn’t all that surprising. However, a lab picking up bull frogs – who are known to not taste so good on the outside – is truly impressive. And based upon what Barret Fritscher told Outdoor Life, he’s fully aware of how special of a dog he has:

“Juice is that once-in-a-lifetime dog for me. He’s literally a multitool dog. Of course he’ll do ducks, geese, and doves, but he’ll also run rabbits, track deer, and now frog. And when we go to South Dakota, he’ll also flush upland birds. He’s pretty incredible. He’s the kind of dog who makes his owner look good.”

If you were wondering, Fritscher did train Juice to pick up frogs. Dog training is something that he takes a lot of pride in, and he found that teaching his lab how to pick up frogs was just somewhat of an extension of the skillset that he had already armed his hunting dog with to pick up other things like ducks.

Once Juice got the hang of it, he fell in love with frogging… and now the internet is falling in love with the black lab in the comments of the post:

“Where can I buy that magic wand that casts a frog gettin’ fur missile?”

“I want a frog dog.”

“Are his training bumpers shaped like Kermit the Frog?”

“Just wait till next waterfowl season when you down a duck, and all he brings back is a frog.”

“Dude literally has the goodest of boys.”

“Yo I’ve never seen a froggin’ dog before and I’m from South Louisiana. This is too cool!”

“Enjoy that dog as much as you can, that’s one of a kind. You’ll be thinking about that dog for the rest of your life.”

That last comment had to take into the Marley & Me realm of thing, eh? But they are right… that’s a one of a kind dog that the owner is going to cherish forever, and never forget. How could you when they put so many fried frog legs on the table?
