Military helicopters flying over the White House might not sound particularly newsworthy. But a military helicopter flying over the White House in Nashville, Tennessee has caused quite the stir.

The White House overlooking Music City belongs to Kid Rock, a 27,000 square foot replica of the executive residence with just two bedrooms, a gold elevator, and even a golden shower…I’ll let you make your own joke there.

As Joe Rogan described the home:

“It’s like you give a 13 year old kid $100 million and you say, build whatever you want… It’s hilarious.”

Well over the weekend, Kid Rock (whose real name is Bob Ritchie) got a special visitor to his home when a U.S. Army helicopter did a fly-by of his Whites Creek estate, hovering just over the pool of the “Southern White House” as the rock star offered a salute.

The “All Summer Long” singer shared video of the wild scene while also taking a shot at California governor Gavin Newsom:

“This is a level of respect that s–t for brains Governor of California will never know. God Bless America and all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to defend her.”

Of course the video immediately began taking off (no pun intended) on social media, with the right applauding the partiotic gesture while those on the left questioned the reason for the fly-by and criticizing the taxpayer cost involved with the gesture:

The circumstances of the fly-by weren’t immediately clear, though as Military.com reports:

“[M]ilitary aircraft flights are typically conducted as part of routine training operations, not personal requests. Those missions are funded through readiness budgets and often take place over civilian areas, even when they appear unusual in isolation.”

A statement by Maj. Jonathon Bless, public affairs officer for the 101st Airborne Division stationed at nearby Fort Campbell, Kentucky, said that the incident was being reviewed by leadership:

“Fort Campbell leadership is aware of a video circulating on social media depicting AH-64 Apache helicopters operating in the vicinity of a private residence associated with Mr. Robert Ritchie (also known as ‘Kid Rock’).

The command has initiated an investigation to review the circumstances surrounding this activity.”

The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell maintain strict standards for aviation safety, professionalism, and adherence to established flight regulations. We take all concerns regarding aircraft operations and their impact on the surrounding community seriously.”

The helicopter flight happened as a “No Kings” protest was ongoing in Nashville, raising concerns about the military flying over the protest. But the spokesman says it’s unclear whether the pilots intended to fly over the protest or whether it was coincidental:

“Our pilots do regularly fly routes outside the Fort Campbell area. We just don’t know if it was incidental or if it was deliberate.”

Maybe the pilots just wanted to see the Southern White House for themselves? I mean, that pool overlooking the city looks like a pretty incredible place for a swim. And it’s not everyday you get to take a golden showe…you know what, never mind.
