“I Had Tears In My Eyes” – German World Cup Fan Goes Viral For Falling In Love With America

The 2026 World Cup continues to reveal what us Americans knew all along… the United States of America is a wonderful place.

The largest single-sport tournament in the world has been nothing short of spectacular thus far, and is proving once again that sports is the great unifier. All across the United States, international World Cup fans from all corners of the world are having an absolute blast here in the States, heaping tons of praise of the good citizens of this country.

There’s no better example of that then a German soccer fan named Freddy who has been over in the states for the World Cup. His story is insane (getting helped by JJ Watt, meeting Ella Langley), and he’s legitimately been treated like royalty as he’s traversed America.

And another German fan named Sebastian Krautz is now going viral for a local news interview that he did with NBC10 Boston. Though the team that he traveled to America to follow got knocked out early in one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, he’s still had the time of his life:

“I fell in love with this country and this was so emotional, I even cried in the stadium. To be honest, I was a bit scared or had a fear to travel to the United States. News about shootings and criminals and that the country is not safe.”

Once Krautz actually got here, he found that all of those storylines aren’t great representations of what the United States truly is.

While the German soccer fan was here and experienced the greatness of the country himself, he couldn’t help but fall in love with the U.S. of A.. And one moment, which he documented with a video, stood tall above the rest in proving that America is a hospital place.

Krautz was stuck near the stadium after a game, and some friendly Boston residents (one named “Bob”) offered him a ride to where he was staying. He’s glad he got that on video, because he’s relived the moment time and time again:

“I watched the video by myself maybe 40 times. I had tears in my eyes.”

Acts of kindness like that is what’s making it very hard for Sebastian Krautz to leave America. He even admitted that he’s more upset about having to leave than he is that Germany got knocked out early.

Towards the end of the interview, Sebastian Krautz offered up a statement encapsulating his time in the States, and it’s something that should make Americans proud. It also acts as a great message of unity, and how all of us on this Earth really are better together:

“Americans are not rude. Germans are not rude. If we are together, we can achieve great things.”

Seems to me like World Cup fans are learning why America is the greatest country in the world. USA! USA! USA!

Safe to say the North American World Cup has been a huge success. Of course, the negative discourse on social media is all about how much America sucks and how it’s a terrible place to host the World Cup, but from the folks on the ground, it’s been nothing short of incredible. Bar and liquor store owners would definitely tell you the same.

The tournament runs all the through the middle of July when the 2026 World Cup Final takes place on July 19 in New Jersey. That’s plenty of time for even more, inspiring stories to come to light… and excessive amounts of alcohol to be consumed.
