Marshals wrapped up its first season back at the end of May, and fans will be happy to hear that Season 2 is right around the corner.
Despite some criticism, it’s safe to say that the Kayce Dutton-focused procedural drama has been a success for CBS. The formula was simple really: take an established Yellowstone character, drop them into a format that has been utilized by networks for years, and see what happens. CBS was banking on new viewers being able to tune in without feeling like they had to do homework, and Yellowstone fans to just enjoy seeing a beloved character on their television screens again.
They hit the nail right on the head.
The monster ratings and massive response to the show led to the official order of a second season of Marshals back in early March, shortly after the show premiered … and that came as no surprise. The Yellowstone brand just has that kind of carry, and it translated quite well into network television (that’s somewhat dependent on who you ask).
And the good news is that the team behind Marshals wasted no time starting production on Season 2. There were reports that executives at CBS gave the writers room the green light to start working on more episodes as early as February of this year, and all signs point towards that being true. The jump that Marshals got actually means that fans won’t have to deal with a large gap between Season 1 and Season 2.
When CBS revealed some details about their primetime schedule for the 2026-2027 broadcast season, guess which show was slotted within that schedule? You guessed it… Season 2 of Marshals. Though there’s not an official premiere date just yet, the Kayce Dutton-led series will return this fall (after premiering Season 1 in the spring of 2026).
That was also confirmed by the teaser trailer for the second season that the official Marshals and CBS TV social accounts rolled out earlier today. It’s fitting that they got this sneak peek ready for the 4th of July weekend, because it looks like the fireworks are going to go off early and often in Season 2 of Marshals.

“That’s the Dutton Way.”
Picking up right where they left off… COME ON WITH IT.
And Luke Grimes has previously shared that Season 2 will be a whole lot longer than Season 1. The inaugural run of Marshals was 13 episodes. The sophomore season is apparently going to fall between 18 and 20 episodes. So not only is it a short turn around time… there’s going to be roughly four months worth of episodes to be released (assuming Marshals does weekly releases with no breaks) when the series returns.
Networks generally start their fall schedule sometime in September, so it’s possible that fans of the show will only go three or so months without seeing Kayce Dutton on their televisions. That’d be quite the gift, and right on par with how Yellowstone spinoffs and Taylor Sheridan shows typically prefer to pull off yearly releases (like the good ol’ days of television, am I right?).
