An NFL legend will be changing the channel when the Super Bowl reaches it’s halfway point.
We’re now just a few hours away from the NFL’s final game of the season. Super Bowl LX will feature the Seattle Seahawks facing off against the New England Patriots, and the National Football League opted to go with international superstar, Bad Bunny, to be their halftime performer. I’m sure you’ve heard by now that not everyone was excited about that selection.
Clearly, the NFL went with the Puerto Rican singer because he’s got a global reach. Bad Bunny has 77.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify, and he just recently took home the “Album of the Year” award at the Grammys. Still, not everyone is on board with the Spanish-speaking singer taking center stage during the “Big Game,” and the Charlie Kirk-founded Turning Point USA went as far to put together an alternative halftime show of their own.
It’s supposed to go on at the exact same time as Bad Bunny’s performance, and will feature Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett. Many football fans have voiced that they’ll be switching to the alternative, “All-American” show, and some Nashville bars have plans to switch over to the country-music-leaning halftime show that’s being put on by Turning Point USA.
Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre will also be changing the channel when the Super Bowl goes to the half.
Why? Because he says that he wants to go with something that he’s familiar with. On his 4th and Favre podcast, he explained that his decision isn’t meant to be divisive. The NFL legend just wants to spend the Super Bowl halftime show listening to artists that he’s listened to before, and he has every right to do so.
Favre explained it like this when he was asked which performance he’d be tuning in to:
“I’m gonna watch Kid Rock and Lee Brice. There’s a bunch of them. Nothing against Bad Bunny. I really don’t know what he’s saying. That doesn’t mean I like him or dislike him. But I’m gonna go with what I know.”
I’m sure a lot of people will be doing the same thing for the same reason.
I’ve seen a number of people countering that “non-American” acts like U2, Paul McCartney, The Weeknd and The Rolling Stones have played the halftime show and no one batted an eye. That’s true… but those bands and artists are likely a little bit more familiar to the casual music listener than Bad Bunny, who primarily sings in Spanish. And to once again clarify, Bad Bunny is American.
And while the whole country seems to be choosing one side or the other (Bad Bunny or Kid Rock), one many replied to Brett Favre’s thoughts with an interesting, Super Bowl halftime show thought of his own:
Neither. It’s for bathroom break time and refilling food and beverages. Neither act is worth my time

Could be the move.
