Quite the update for all the MobLand fans out there.
It was just last week when the crime drama looked to be on death’s door after Variety reported that Tom Hardy had been fired from the show. Rumors had been swirling online indicating that this firing may come because of onset tension, but many found it hard to believe. Even if there was tension between Hardy – who plays fixer Harry Da Souza – and those that worked on MobLand… how could the show go on without him?
That’s what everyone was asking when it became widely reported that Tom Hardy was fired from his role just after Season 2 wrapped production.
At the time of that announcement, and even now, MobLand hasn’t been picked up for a third season. The series has been a monster hit for Paramount+ (it was the second most watched show on the streaming service when it dropped last year), so many expect for it go another season. That outlook was a bit murkier when Tom Hardy wasn’t going to be a part of the series anymore.
When you build a show around a certain character – and then they are suddenly no longer there – it doesn’t pack the punch that it once did. Considering the 180 that MobLand appears to be doing, it’s safe to say that the studio figured that out. It’s now being reported that Tom Hardy was never fired from the series, and that conversations are ongoing for him to return:
“Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3 and things are being worked through creatively.”
The word “creatively” is holding a lot of weight there.
My guess would be that Paramount saw the backlash online after the news broke about Hardy being fired and then they “creatively” found a way to give him his job back. That seems to be how the rest of the internet sees it, and MobLand fans have been flooding social media with “yeah right” posts, and messages that are just appreciative that Tom Hardy will still presumably play Harry Da Souza if everything gets worked out:
