Jesse Plemons Resurrects His ‘Friday Night Lights’ Band, Crucifictorious, With “Devil Town” Performance In Austin

Crucifictious Friday Night Lights

Crucifictorious is BACK.

The cast of Friday Night Lights was back in the Lone Star State yesterday to celebrate 20 years since the show launched (how has it been that long?) Actors Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Jessie Plemons, Adrianne Palicki, Scott Porter, Gaius Charles, and more were on hand in Austin to reflect back on everyone’s favorite high school football team from Dillon, Texas. Not a real town by the way…

The discussion was a part of the ATX TV Festival, which has quite a long history with the show. The festival got started in 2012, right around the time the show ended, and organizers spent the first few years of the festival with a concerted effort on bringing Friday Night Lights content to festival-goers… reunions, screening, discussions with the cast. And to celebrate 20 years of the show, the pulled out all the stops, and brought in most of the top cast, minus Oscar-winner Michael B. Jordan.

But the highlight of the night may have been the reunion of Landy Clarke’s Christian metal band, Crucifictorious. Remember them?

You also may remember back to Season 3 when Devin auditioned to be the band’s new bass player:

Well, they’re back!

Jesse Plemons and Stephanie Hunt, AKA Landry Clarke and Devin Corrigan, reunited for a couple performances, although, the band has apparently transitioned to more of a Christian folk band, rather than the screamo metal we’re used to hearing from Landry.

The two performed “Devil Town,” which was originally used in the first season, and then later on for a promo video. The song was originally written and recorded by Daniel Johnson, and then covered by the band Bright Eyes. However, Bright Eyes didn’t want to let the show use their rendition for the show, and they ended up asking Austin musician Tony Lucca to record the one you hear in the show.

Hunt told the crowd ahead of the performance:

“I think this is a song that Crucifictorious would cover… it’s one of the best songs ever.”
