Another “Baseball Karen” has hit the internet.
It’s been the “Year of the Karen” for the MLB. First was the “Phillies Karen” that sparked an uproar on social media, and now we’ve got what I guess you could call a “Brewers Karen” going viral online. There’s just something about the sport of baseball and women with “Karen energy” I guess?
In case you missed out on the “Phillies Karen” story, let me get you caught up. During a contest between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Miami Marlins at LoneDepot Park in Miami in early September, Harrison Bader launched a ball deep into the stands for a home run.
That home run ball was up for grabs, and a father trying to catch the ball for his son ran to the end of his row and claimed the ball as his. The proud father took the baseball back to his son, the two joyously (and briefly) celebrated before “Phillies Karen” stomped over and demanded that she be given the ball.
She was so aggressive about it that the father handed the baseball over to her just so she’d get off of their backs, as you can see in this video below:
The Milwaukee Brewers “Karen” is actually named Shannon Kobylarczyk, and she was identified after she made some racist remarks towards a Los Angeles Dodgers fan that was sitting near here during a game in the MLB playoffs where the Dodgers won over the Brewers 5-1.
Ricardo Fosado, a U.S. citizen and U.S. War Veteran, was cheering on his Dodgers team in a sea of Brewers fans. When it became clear that Los Angeles was going to win, Fosado got out his phone and started to rib the quiet Milwaukee fans that were sitting near him.
One of those fans was Shannon Kobylarczyk.
After the man began to taunt the fans in the surrounding area, Kobylarczyk first made fun of the veteran for his choice of adult beverage. She clapped back with a quip about “real men drinking beer” (and added another word in there), and if she would have stopped there, Shannon Kobylarczyk might have been okay.
However, she took things a step too far when she “joked” with her husband and said, “You know what, let’s call ICE.” Fosado quickly responded by saying he was a U.S. citizen and a veteran, who served two tours overseas, and encouraged her to make the call.
I’d say that you could see the regret in Kobylarczyk’s eyes right after she said that… but the “Brewers Karen” slapped at the Dodgers fan moments later. And it was all caught on video:
Not a good look… and no, I’m not talking about that Karen haircut.
Unlike the “Phillies Karen,” who was never able to be identified, “Brewers Karen” was quickly identified as Shannon Kobylarczyk. Once she was, her employer, ManPowerGroup, reportedly fired Kobylarczyk within 24 hours of her being confirmed as the woman in the video. The global workforce solutions company then commented this on the above video:
“As soon as we became aware of this video the individual was placed on immediate leave and we began an investigation. As a result of this process, the employee is no longer with the organization.
We remain committed to maintaining a culture grounded in respect, integrity, and accountability.”
It never pays to be a Baseball Karen.
