Pair Of Black Bears Hilariously Perch On Tree Branch That’s Way Too Small For Them

Black bear

These bears are gonna need a bigger tree.

Steamboat Springs, Colorado is famous for many things – like its natural hot springs or it’s “Champagne Powder” snow. But another, maybe lesser known feature of the Colorado town? Black bears are plentiful in the area, and as you’ll see in this video below, they are often getting into some mischievous trouble.

There’s just something about bears in Steamboat Springs… a couple of years ago, two made headlines for climbing a ski tower.

The footage you’ll see below isn’t as extreme as that. No rescue team was needed for these climbers, simply because the bears picked a tree that didn’t stand all that high off the ground. Someone driving by couldn’t help but notice that one of the small tree’s branches was really hanging low, and once they saw the small bear testing the strength of the limb, it all made sense.

There’s a variety of reasons why black bears will scale trees. Sometimes they decide to perch within a tree to get some rest, which helps them avoid any trouble that could come wandering through the area while its guard is down. They’ll also climb up in trees in search of food, and mother bears will often times send their cubs up trees if they sense danger in the area.

These two light-colored bears may have been going back to their cub training (they look to be a bit larger than a cub, but not fully grown) and jumped up in the tree to rest on its branches. The only problem? They either forgot how big they are, or didn’t think about how small this tree was, and it made for quite the comedic scene.

One of the bears trekked all the way out to the end of the tree’s branch, and appeared to be rather comfortable. Meanwhile, the branch was being tested to its maximum weight capacity… yet it was somehow still holding up the slightly-too-big bear. Outdoors videos often show the extreme of nature. This one showcases an innocent moment where a couple of bears – like a larger dog thinking it’s a lap dog – not realizing exactly how big they are.

Check it out:

“Two bears were seen perched on tree branches much too thin for them in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.”

Looks like that branch could break at any moment.

It’s easy to see why this video went viral. You can’t help but feel for the bears who just wanted to get up into a tree… and just picked one that was undoubtedly too small to comfortably house them. Social media users that came across the video got a kick out of the Steamboat Springs bears, and actually sided with the wild animals in the “are they too big for those branches?” discussion.

“Not too thin. Held up just fine.”

“The confidence those bears have in that branch.”

“Don’t judge a branch by its bear.”

“Lord give me as much faith as this chonky bear has on this branch.”

“Is this a case of ‘If it fits, I sits?'”

“It’s fat bear season not fat-SHAMING bears season.”

“Bearly hanging on.”

I’m always here for a good pun… great work on that last one.
