Jesse Daniel is taking it back to his roots with another mid-week treat from the California native. Today, he released another single, “Mountain Home,” from his forthcoming record, Son of the San Lorenzo.
“Mountain Home” is the perfect follow-up to his last single featuring Charles Wesley Godwin, “Time Well Spent For A Man,” where the two men reflect on the meaningful things in life, and spending time with those you love instead of logging hours in a cubicle.
While “Mountain Home” carries a different undertone, it still captures the feeling of remembering where you came from and never forgetting your roots.
“This song is a reminiscing, or romanticizing, of the past. How you can go home, but you can never truly go back to recreate the past. All we are left to do is bear the imprint of those times in their reflection on our daily lives. To savor the bittersweet memories and move ahead.”
If you have moved away from home, this song is for you. The lyrics capture the memories that will never fade from the city you call home and the sadness of seeing your home change and evolve. It’s the same but different… and sometimes those differences are heartbreaking.
“I’ll make it home one sunny day
How’d I ever get so far away
When I return, I’ll never stray
My mountain home is where I’ll stay
Awoken from a dream, reality comes crashing
Like the thundercloud it echoes out an all familiar cry
From this lonely place, the memories come flashing
Like the lightning painting pictures on a strange and foreign sky…”
The tune’s melody highlights a nostalgic fiddle and down-home harmonica to reminisce on a simple life, and the plucky sound of the banjo transports listeners back to a backyard or field you might have played in during your youth. The sound of “Mountain Sound” is much softer and captures the folk roots side of Jesse Daniel’s sound.
If you’re a fan of Daniel because of his rip-roaring, honky tonk sound, “Mountain Home” shows an entirely different side of him as an artist. But don’t let that deter you. This single and the others released from his forthcoming record are just as stellar as his steel-soaked barroom anthems.
Jesse Daniel does not miss, and “Mountain Home” is no exception. You’ll quickly find this one of the repeats.
Check it out.
Daniel’s next studio record is due for a June 6th release via Lightning Rod Records.
