“I’m Made To Be Listened To Not Looked At”: Zach Top Says He’s “Not Itching” To Start An Acting Career

All I’m saying is that he’d kill it in a comedy…

Out of all of the trends ongoing in country music lately, one of the most fascinating has to be the rise in artists who are venturing their way into the world of acting. Of course, it’s not like this is anything particularly new, with Dolly Parton, Tim McGraw, Reba, Kris Kristofferson and more building successful careers outside of music over the decades. Recently, thanks to the rise of country music, some of today’s biggest stars have begun getting cast in a wide array of different projects.

Famously, Lainey Wilson got a major career boost when she appeared across multiple episodes on season five of Taylor Sheridan’s hit show, Yellowstone, in a full-fledged acting role. Following in her footsteps, recently, Riley Green made his acting debut on Marshals back in April, appearing in four episodes.

With Wilson and Green appearing in multiple Sheridan shows, other acts like Carter Faith getting cast in the upcoming Netflix film, Heartland, and Ella Langley expressing interest in starring in a horror film in the near future, it seems like country artists venturing into acting is becoming a new trend as of late.

It might just be me, but out of all of today’s stars, Zach Top feels like he could effortlessly transition into acting. Of course, it’s hard to truly dislike him. Beyond his killer guitar skills, smooth vocals and aforementioned ’90s sound, he’s also simply charismatic as all hell, effortlessly delivering hilarious moments like when he accepted his Best New Artist Award at the CMAs with a Coors Banquet in his hand or when he went viral at the Folds of Honor celebrity softball game sporting a double beer helmet both years and last year.

The “I Never Lie” singer touched on the topic of potentially venturing into the world of acting on a recent appearance on Kaite & Company. Though he’d note that he’s been offered a few scripts lately, he’d admit that he’s a bit hesitant.

“I’ve read some scripts. I’m not saying never, but I don’t know. I’m bad at it.”

With that being said, however, he wouldn’t rule it out completely. After referencing the aforementioned fact that both Wilson and Green experienced quite the boost after their appearances on Yellowstone and Marshals, Top said he would consider it. Of course, he’d have to make quick self-deprecating joke, saying he’s meant to be “listened to, not looked at.”

“If it’s something that introduces my music to more people and helps sell more tickets, then I’ll always consider it. [I’m] not itching to get into the acting world. I’m made to be listened to, not looked at.”

One thing Top would be interested in, however, is stand-up comedy, which feels like a bit of a no-brainer for him. Referencing his love for the likes of Theo Von, Bert Kreishcer and Tom Segura, he’d note that he’s always wanted to try his hand at it.

“I love stand-up comedy. I’m a fan of a ton [of those guys]. Theo [Von’s] great, Bert [Kreischer]. I love Bert and Tom [Segura]. I’m a huge fan of what those guys do, and that would be fun. I’ve always wanted to be a funny guy, and I’m kind of hit-or-miss funny. But that’s such a daunting prospect — you just gotta stand up there with a microphone and talk and make people laugh.”

If we can’t see him in an acting role any time soon, I think the world deserves a Zach Top x Theo Von collaboration at the very least.
