Though it’s clear that the loser of the NFL Draft’s first round was Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who would you say was the big winner last night?
If you were to fire up social media, you’d most likely find that the people of the internet have crowned Jaxson Dart’s mother Kara as the overwhelming winner. Sure, her son got drafted to the New York Giants with the 25th pick in the first round of the NFL Draft, and that’s great.
But Dart’s mom stole the show…
The NFL Draft almost always provides viral moments, though just like you don’t ever know what teams are going to do with their picks, you don’t ever know who or what will go viral. In the past, we got to know former Kentucky quarterback Will Levis’ now ex-girlfriend Gia Duddy when he slipped to the second round of the draft. Then you’ve also got the infamous moment where Russell Wilson’s ex-wife thought she was set for life when the QB got drafted by the Seahawks.
Then just last night, we had a number of standout moments. Green Bay Packers legend Clay Matthews read a note straight from the president, LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell went viral for sounding like Forrest Gump, and Texas offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr’s had his draft moment overshadowed by his baby… who threw up when it was announced he was going to the New Orleans Saints.
Now those were all fine and dandy, but there’s one thing that the internet especially likes to focus on during draft night…. hot moms. We all remember how viral Zach Wilson’s mom went a few years back, right? And last night, we have another mom stealing the show. When Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart had his name called in the first round when the New York Giants selected him (when a lot of experts thought the Giants would go with Shedeur Sanders), it was already a somewhat shocking revelation. But then that shock turned to awe when Dart gave his mother a hug to celebrate the moment:

Wow… imagine your own mother stealing your thunder.
Obviously, Kara Dart didn’t do that intentionally. That’s just how social media works sometimes. You can try and try to craft a viral moment, and it doesn’t work. Then football fans see an in-shape, good-looking mom on draft night and the internet goes bananas. And to her credit, Kara Dart looks like she lives in the gym and runs marathons. I mean, check out at those guns on her.
She apparently runs her own fitness-based program, and that’s clear as day if you were to look at her Instagram page:
And with social media being swept away by Kara Dart, how do you think Jaxson Dart’s father – Brandon Dart – feels about all of this? Is he upset that people are calling his wife hot? Or is he flattered and feeling like the luckiest man alive? I’ve got a feeling that he (and Jaxson) are probably somewhere in the middle of those two options.
Though if I put myself in either of their shoes, and scroll through comments like these, I lean towards the “please stop talking about my mom like that” category:
