Dang, Martha… that’s savage.
On Monday, six women took a Blue Origin rocket into outer space for an 11-minute flight, which included Gayle King, Katy Perry, Amanda Nguyen, Aisha Bowe, Lauren Sánchez and Kerianne Flynn. Katy Perry has been making a lot of headlines leading up to the trip, and all of them seemed excited about this wild adventure… well, everyone except for CBS News co-host, the aforementioned Gayle King.
Blue Origin takes passengers to the Kármán line, approximately 62-mile (100 km) above the surface of the Earth, which is a relatively arbitrary line that is regarded as the “boundary of space.” However, Blue Origin’s New Shepard are not ships that orbit Earth like the traditional NASA rocket launches we see. And just for reference, the international Space Station orbits at around 250 miles from the Earth’s surface.

At 9:30 am, the rocket took off and the flight was a complete success, but as someone who also hates (probably not even a strong enough word) to fly, I sympathize with Gayle King and how nervous she was to go through with the trip… the woman did not look well beforehand and she became a viral meme:

It’s been a highly-criticized PR disaster, but Perry has taken the brunt of a lot of the criticism, and her post-flight interview was really something… she revealed a set list up there and people keep calling her an astronaut which is beyond a stretch, to say the least:
#KatyPerry tells Blue Origin about being an astronaut: “I think this experience has shown me you never know how much love is inside of you, like how much love you have to give and how loved you are until the day you launch”👏👑💙@katyperry pic.twitter.com/asO5XpkPnv

But Miss Martha Stewart and her social team did not miss out on the chance to troll the whole event, after sharing a video of Martha aboard a Boeing 727 called G-Force One in 2007, which simulated the feelings real astronauts get when they experience zero gravity.”
She took it a step further, shading Perry in particular by adding lyrics from her 2010 hit “Firework”:
“Do you ever feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind?”
The caption was pretty funny too, with them pointing out that Martha has “always been ahead of her time”:
“Martha has always been ahead of her time.”
It’s the best troll I’ve seen yet… 10/10, no notes:
Of course, the post elicited a very positive response from fans online, who loved the expert-level trolling and shade:
“Martha I love you so much. She said, ‘Did you forget? Lemme remind y’all.'”
“Martha Steward started the ‘Women Taking Up Space ‘ movement.”
“The shade!!!”
“Here’s to the pioneers & ‘Do you ever feel like a plastic bag… drifting through the wind….'”
“Let me remind you I’m actually cooler. I love this.”
“I love the universal dragging. So good.”
“Martha has always been THAT girl.”
“Expert trolling.”
“Love Martha. Classy and never out of touch w reality or her fan base unlike the ‘menopause 6’ that just went on their ride on Blue Sky. Martha is the OG Goat!”
“What? She didn’t hold up a tiny flower with a bemused look on her face or even a goofy little stuffed animal?”
“I don’t remember Martha ever calling herself an astronaut.”
“Martha is the Queen of Petty.”
“Martha knows EXACTLY what she’s doing.”
“Social team popped off!”
“And I bet you aren’t calling your self a damn astronaut like some other people!!! Katy Perry & Gayle King I am looking at you.”
“First Diva in space.”
“Martha you don’t want any part of this mess today!”
“This is next level trolling lol you’re an icon.”
I think it’s safe to say we won’t see Martha up there anytime soon…
