The UFC Freedom 250 event on the White House lawn is right around the corner… and as you might imagine, people are still finding new ways to get upset about it.
The United States of America is officially turning 250 years old next month. The 4th of July is always special, but this year’s edition will especially be so. President Trump has made an effort to make the celebration stretch throughout the entire year (that hasn’t gone exactly as planned), which is why Freedom 250 has had events sprinkled throughout since July of last year.
The year-long celebration will culminate with a massive fair on the ground of the National Mall in Washington D.C., which is set to feature exhibits from all 50 states. And in case you missed the news, the iconic White House is partnering with the UFC to host a fight night on the lawn this Sunday.
The UFC event that will take place on the South Lawn of the White House marks the first time that a sporting event has ever been held at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Weather forecasts for the outdoor event aren’t looking great, but it’s the internet firestorm that’s currently garnering more attention. What’s everyone up in arms about? Dana White’s Ultimate Fighting Championship rolled out images of what the ring girl outfits will look like on Sunday night, and the USA-themed getup is being accused of desecrating the American flag.
Here’s a look at them:
“JUST IN: UFC unveils the outfits Octagon Girls will wear at the UFC Freedom 250 White House fights this weekend.”
That’s definitely what you’d imagine for an event on the White House lawn celebrating the 250th birthday of America, don’t you think?
Well… not everyone shares that mindset. Many are citing that the ring girl outfits desecrate the flag code, which states that the Red, White and Blue “should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding or drapery (or) be used as a costume or athletic uniform.” Pretty ironic coming from the crowd that doesn’t mind, dare I say… encourages… a good old fashioned anti-American flag burning. Now, the America-hating liberals are worried about flag code? Gimme a break.
The online outrage looks like this:

Always have to find something to be upset about, eh?
The designer of the outfits, Marina Toybina, told Maxim that she recognized June 14 – the date of the UFC event – was Flag Day. Because of that, she tried to capture the moment, and honor the day, by putting together patriotic garb that celebrated the symbol and spirit of America:
“The inspiration was born from the intersection of sport, spectacle, and celebration. Working closely with UFC, we wanted to create looks that honored both the energy of the brand and the significance of the 250th anniversary celebration.
The goal was to blend strength, athleticism, glamour, and American heritage into a wardrobe language that felt sophisticated, powerful, and unmistakably iconic.”
Not surprising at all that that’s not how many Americans are seeing it.
