Ok, we’ve officially entered crazy land…
Before we get into the meat and potatoes of this story, it amazes me how some folks have enough time to come up with these theories. As someone who is chronically online, I would have never thought of this or even considered it a possibility.
Put on your tin foil hats folks, because the internet has given us another conspiracy theory for whom Megan Moroney has spent much time in the tropics with.
At the start of 2025, Megan Moroney appeared to be no longer an Emo Cowgirl, as rumors began to fly that she and Riley Green were in St. Barth together. After Green posted an image on Instagram of a tropical location, social media detectives started to compare notes, finding that the location was the same tropical location as where Megan Moroney was posting from.
After initial rumors began to swirl, the two were not helping get folks off their scent when Megan Moroney posted an image after a night out in Nashville, seemingly wearing the same cowboy hat Riley Green was spotted wearing earlier the same night. Riley Green’s dog, Carl, then entered the chat, commenting on one of Moroney’s social media posts and noting how good she looked.
Most recently, Moroney and Green were back in the tropics (but never noted they were together). While there, Riley Green was called out hard for deleting and re-posting a picture of him in the ocean, blacking out his sunglasses to hide what appeared to be a reflection of a woman in the lens. The woman looked a whole lot like Megan Moroney.
It seems like many clues are pointing to them being together, right?
Enter a new conspiracy theory about Megan Moroney’s dating life. One TikTok user has gone viral posing another option of who Moroney might be romantically entangled with—and buckle up because it’s not someone you’d think.
This woman believes, quite insanely might I add, that Megan Moroney is dating Kenny Chesney.

While all of these notions are true, I’m not sure they are tied together. Yes, Megan Moroney has been spending a lot of time in the islands recently and writing while she’s been there. Yes, she went on tour with Kenny Chesney last summer, which was huge for her career. Yes, she did share a video of her singing a cover of his songs.
But Kenny is always in the islands and he’s also always hosting friends and fellow country artists for co-writing sessions.
While it’s no secret these two spend a lot of time together, I’m not buying this theory. I see Chesney’s relationship with Moroney as similar to his relationship with Taylor Swift. It’s like a father figure and a musical mentor. Given his long and successful career, Moroney has often said she admires Chesney as an artist.
She said that coming off tour with him, she was so inspired by the way he made his shows a celebration of his fan base, really put on a show for them and did not let the size of the venues take away from the music.
“One thing I saw that was kind of crazy to me is that he’s in a stadium. He could have crazy production, but he doesn’t because his songs are that good, and he’s that good of a performer.
So, it was kind of a reminder to focus on the songwriting and make sure the songs are good. Because, you know, he can get up there and entertain people for two hours and still not play all of his hits. There are still songs that he doesn’t get to play.
So that’s really inspiring, too. Like, how do you get to play for that long, and you don’t even play all of your hits?”
It’s clear that Chesney believes in Moroney and her music. He frequently comments on her posts celebrating major career milestones. However, this certainly does not seem like anything more than a friendship and mentorship, with Chesney cheering on Moroney like a father would.
Thankfully, many folks were quick to comment on this post, thinking this was very far off from the truth. My money is still on Moroney and Green dating each other, but you never know the truth until an announcement or a hard launch is made…
