Muscadine Bloodline Delivers A Beautifully Heartbreaking New Single, “Chickasaw Church Of Christ”

Muscadine Bloodline

A brand new one from Muscadine Bloodline, with the promise of more new music on the way.

Big things are on the horizon this year for Muscadine Bloodline. They have promised fans not one but two records this year and kicked off the year by sharing a gritty collaboration with Josh Meloy, “Ain’t For Sale.”

Today, the Alabama duo stripped things back. Instead of dancing with the devil as they did on “Ain’t For Sale,” they look at life through a lens of love and loss on their latest single, “Chickasaw Church Of Christ.”

The stripped-back acoustic track transports you back to the early days of Muscadine Bloodline, and the boys have a good feeling about this song. They share that when they finished penning it, they were left filled with emotion.

“This may not make sense, but this is somehow a love song and a breakup song at the same time. Can’t really explain it, but there a lot of raw emotions packed in this 3 minute story. After we finished the song, it evoked that ‘made me feel something’ response songwriters are trying to chase.

So, being that tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, we thought we’d put out a song like this. We went ‘2015, duo acoustic’ Muscadine on this song. Got so much coming down the pipe soon, and you’ll find out more next week.”

And they weren’t lying… “Chickasaw Church Of Christ ” is exactly what a breakup song that’s also a love song should sound like. The moving lyrics highlight a couple about to break up because one of them is moving. While they are mourning the end of their time together and shared love, they are trying to make the most of their last moments together, filling the heartbreaking moment of saying goodbye with one last night together.

The male narrator hopes that when they finally part ways, there will be no resentment in the relationship, and it’s one that they can both look back fondly on their time together, especially their final night together, running through all their shared memories.

‘Til you meet me at the place we can kill the lights
Maybe at the Chickasaw Church of Christ
Hell, we ain’t even gotta say goodbye
Just kiss me like you mean it when it ends tonight

And no one’s pointing fingers for the blame
And no one wants to have the one that got away
No, I can’t stand the thought of not calling you mine
We’re running out of time, so won’t you put it in drive?”

The stripped-back melody allows the words penned by Gary Stanton to pack a punch. This song is a strong feature for Valentine’s Day as it highlights the split and raw emotions folks feel today. Those deeply in love can appreciate a love so deep that you spend every moment together until the bitter end. On the other hand, those heartbroken can resonate with having to let go of something when you don’t necessarily want to.

“Chickasaw Church Of Christ” is set to appear on Muscadine’s forthcoming record, … And What Was Left Behind, which will essentially be a “Chapter 2” to the duo’s most recent album, The Coastal Plain. The record appears on Apple Music with a slated release date of April 11th. While this preview of the upcoming record is not yet on Spotify, and given that Muscadine said fans would know more next week about what’s in the pipeline, I am sure this means a formal announcement is to be made.

But until that pending announcement next week, the complex nature of “Chickasaw Church Of Christ” will keep fans busy. I’m sure this heater will be on repeat, diving deep into the lyrics with each listen for many of us.

In the words of Muscadine Bloodline, “Go gas it.”
