But they’re the only two I’d want to sit with, actually… and the (friendly) trash talking sounds like the most fun part.
Of course, the 58th Annual CMA Awards show is tonight at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, and will be hosted by Lainey Wilson, Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning.
We have Morgan Wallen leading the pack with seven nominations in total, and Chris Stapleton and Cody Johnson right behind him with five each. Reigning entertainer of the year Lainey has four, tying with Post Malone who received his first-ever CMA nods.
Additionally, George Strait will be very deservedly honored with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, an honor that goes to an iconic artist as one of the highest degrees of recognition in country music. Well, at least according to them… I’m not even sure if the King George will be there, but as of right now, he’s expected to show up.
Miranda Lambert will be part of the star-studded tribute to the King, but she isn’t up for any awards tonight, though ever since 2020 when the CMA show comes around, I always reflect on her iconic move when she rolled up the CMA Awards with her own fully-stocked cooler… a legend.

That night, Ashley McBryde was also at Miranda’s table and was seen cutting up with her, and in an interview last year with Audacy’s Stars and Strings, Ashley revealed that they’re actually never sat together anymore at award shows… I don’t know if it’s because of that particular evening, but it’s a shame regardless.
She explained that many of the artists there are also friends, but they enjoy “trash talking” each other about who’s wining which award. I’d die to be a fly on the wall for that… talking sh*t is one of my favorite hobbies.
Ashley also added “that’s why they don’t seat us together anymore,” but personally I think that would make it way more interesting:
“When you’re in a room full of people that do what you do, it’s nice to be able to sit down and talk trash about each other, because we do… Especially Miranda and I.
I think that’s why they don’t seat us together anymore – we give each other a hard time, but we’re always cheering each other on. Especially, the women in Country music — we all are really good at challenging each other and showing up for each other at the same time.”
What I’d give to be seated at a show like this with Ashley and Miranda… those two seem like a helluva good time and I feel like it would be non-stop laughter the entire time, and certainly the most entertaining part of the evening.
I think they’d probably agree, too…
Tonight, Ashley will also perform a tribute to the late, great Kris Kristofferson, which aside from the George Strait tribute, will easily be a highlight of the evening, and I can’t wait to hear what songs she’s chosen to honor is important and iconic legacy.
The CMA Awards air tonight at 8PM EST on ABC.
