An all-time great CMA Awards moment.
I’ll admit, not much about any sort of award show really does it for me now, but growing up, I used to love watching everything from the Grammy’s to all the country shows, obviously.
And maybe it’s because I know how the sausage is made now, so to speak, and there’s not as much mystery and intrigue to them anymore, or I’m just older and value those kinds of things less and less, but I couldn’t really care much less about any sort of award show at all.
Of course, like many of you, I often feel like the most deserving artists get overlooked or are perpetually nominated and never actually win, but the shine has more than worn off and I generally have no interest in any aspect of award shows now (besides the fashion… I’ve always loved that part and still enjoy seeing what everyone wears to something like the CMA Awards).
Anywho, I’m majorly digressing in my point of writing this article, which is to remind everyone about the absolute power move that Miranda Lambert pulled during the 2020 CMAs.
The Titos-loving Texas girl pulled up to her table with her own fully-stocked cooler, because I think she must’ve been worried they either wouldn’t have food or drinks there, or she wouldn’t be able to find a bar like they usually have for the artists and attendees, seeing as this was during the thick of COVID.
Obviously, she wasn’t taking any chances, and I always laugh to myself when I picture Miranda walking through the parking lot or whatever back door they use to get in, just rolling her own little cooler through the venue to her table.
And the only reason we really even know this happened is because when they were coming back from a a TV commercial, Miranda was briefly seen pulling something out of the cooler to pour into her drink, and while it’s a little blurry, it certainly looks like some sort of mini bottle to me…
She later shared the clip on TikTok with the caption:
“Always be prepared y’all.”
Touché…

While the cooler thing was definitely a highlight of the night, Miranda also performed her song “Settling Down,” and hopefully, she’ll be back to perform at the CMAs this year too.
She just released an awesome new album called Postcards From Texas in September, and if you haven’t check it out yet, you’re missing out… it’s fantastic.
In a rather surprising turn of events, for the first time in 17 years, Miranda did not receive a Female Vocalist of the year nomination, and she isn’t nominated for any awards this year. Postcards From Texas was released after the cut-off date for this year’s show, so I have no doubt she’ll obviously be back in the running for multiple awards next year in 2025.
While I highly doubt we’ll ever see another moment like this at an awards show either, mostly because it just happened under insane circumstances that I hope we never have to relive, it will forever be one of my favorite moments.
I know it’s not the most heartwarming, or even shocking, thing to happen at the CMAs, but if you’re the kind of girl who, like me, has never lost a tailgate, then you understand the historical significance and importance of this moment that Miranda so generously provided us.
She just gets it, and she always has…
And not that they’re asking but I need to see her perform “Alimony” on live TV:
The 58th Annual CMA Awards are slated for November 20th, airing live on ABC at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, and will be hosted by Lainey Wilson, Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning.
