Lana Del Rey has been making appearances with some of the biggest country stars on her way to rolling out her crossover into the genre. Since announcing her country album, Lasso, Lana has taken the stage with a handful of stars. From covering Elvis with Paul Cauthen to singing with Jelly Roll, she is covering lots of ground.
This most recent collaboration works so well and is, in all honesty, my favorite appearance from her thus far. Last night, at Fenway Park, Lana brought out the yodel kid, Mason Ramsey.
“Famous for his yodeling. More famous today than he was back then… his name is Mason Ramsey.”
Lana says, welcoming him to the stage as the crowd goes wild before they perform his single, “Blue Over You.”
Since stepping back onto the scene, Mason Ramsey has quite a different sound than the “Twang” singer we got in 2019. As he matured, so did his voice, which became a smooth baritone sound that mimicked Elvis. Even fans have compared his stage moves to The King of Rock and Roll.
“I can’t believe this just happened! Absolutely loved sharing the stage with you can’t believe this just happened! Absolutely loved sharing the stage with you, Lana Del Rey.”
The two stand side by side with their arms around each other as they sing the lyrics, and their voices pair so well together. Lana’s airy vocals pair perfectly with his low and smooth delivery, making this duo (dare I say) a match made in heaven. This duo works better than I would have ever imagined, and I love the addition of a female vocalist on this track.
“I lost you, thought I had you, but you were never really mine
So I’m crying, yeah, I’m dying, you’re not next to me tonight
If I could get that close, oh, heaven only knows
I wouldn’t be blue over you (blue)
Blue over you…”
Check out a more extended version of the performance. I could go for a re-recording of this track… it would go hard with Lana Del Rey as a feature.
