Trying to make amends.

Of course by now everybody’s heard about Morgan Wallen‘s latest legal troubles, after the country music superstar was arrested for allegedly throwing a chair off the 6th story rooftop of Eric Church’s new downtown Nashville bar, Chief’s.

According to News Channel 5, officers arrested Morgan, who was pointed out by the staff as the culprit, after the chair stuck the ground just a few feet from where they were standing. Metro Nashville Police reviewed security footage and it confirmed that he threw an object off the roof.

Wallen was arrested on three counts of assault with a deadly weapon/reckless endangerment, two counts for the two officers who were in the vicinity and one for the danger to the public. Wallen was also charged with disorderly conduct with a bond was set at $15,250.

Wallen’s attorney released a statement following the arrest:

“At 10:53p Sunday evening Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He is cooperating fully with authorities.”

And the Metro Nashville Police Department released a statement on the arrest, along with Morgan’s newest mugshot:

“Country artist Morgan Wallen, 30, was booked early today on 3 cts of felony reckless endangerment and 1 ct of misdemeanor disorderly conduct for throwing a chair from the rooftop of Chief’s Bar Sun night. The chair landed on Broadway, close to 2 MNPD officers. His bond: $15,250.”

But Morgan has stayed silent on his recent legal troubles – until now.

The singer just released a new statement on the arrest on Twitter:

“I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks. I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility.

I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe. Regarding my tour, there will be no change. -MW”

This obviously isn’t the first time Morgan’s found himself in hot water.

If you remember, he was also arrested back in 2020 after being kicked out of Kid Rock’s bar for breaking a glass and gave us this gem of a mugshot…

And of course he’s had a lot of practice making apology videos, including this apology from his 2021 incident after Morgan was caught on video using a racial slur.

And this one when he was booted from SNL after being caught smooching on some Alabama college girls during COVID.

Dude’s wracking up apologies like he’s collecting #1s at this point.

People Are Going To Chief’s Just To Try To See The Chair That Morgan Threw

Of course, the internet has kept the jokes coming, but I’ll be honest, if I see one more meme about George Strait’s “The Chair” and Morgan, I’m going to have to get off of the internet forever. It was funny the first time, guys, but I think we’ve run that one into the ground (no pun intended but I like it).

And according to People, who spoke with sources at the bar since this happened a few days ago, countless people have stopped into the bar now just to see the chair on the top floor, because of course they are. Can’t say I’m really surprised by that, honestly…

Spoiler alert, though, y’all. While it looked like the chair held up decently well considering the intense drop, I don’t think it’s in any condition to actually be used and has probably since been discarded.

But, seeing as Chief’s literally just officially opened a couple of weeks ago, it’s good to have people coming in regardless because that means they’re making money. No such thing as bad press, right? I mean, look at this thing… ain’t nobody sitting in that now:

And for whatever this is worth, People also reported that all of the tables at the top of Chief’s have all four chairs, except for one table, which, you guessed it, just has three at the moment.

While we haven’t heard directly from Mr. Church yet on the incident, his bar did have a pretty great sign out front that read:

“Our pigs fly… our chairs don’t…”

Guess you have to keep your head on a swivel on Broadway these days not only for the people around you on ground level, but for chairs and objects flying off of the rooftops, too…

Security Guard Says He Threw Chair For No Reason

Fortunately, no one was hurt but the chair landed just a few feet away from some Metro Nashville Police Officers, who took him into custody on three charges of assault with a deadly weapon/reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct after both bar staff and security footage were able to identify Morgan as the person who tossed the chair.

And now one of those staff members, a security guard named Michael Phillips, is speaking out about the incident with TMZ to describe the lead up to the chair being thrown.

“I was working the front door where everyone comes in at. I wasn’t checking ID’s, I was checking bags. Seen him came in with two bodyguards, at first didn’t know it was him cause I wouldn’t think he would come in prior to daylight like that, cause we’ve got a VIP section for our famous people…

He went straight to the rooftop. Probably about 30 minutes later I get a call “Somebody throw a chair off the rooftop, almost hit a Metro car” so I went straight to the rooftop and me and another security guard grabbed him, took him down the elevator, escorted him out here to the Metro.”

Phillips went on to say they brought two witnesses down to talk to the Metro police, both of whom identified Morgan as the person who threw the chair, though they claimed to not know who he was. He also said that Metro police saw the security footage of the incident, which gave them enough to put him in the car.

When asked if the people he spoke to saw any reason why he would throw the chair, Phillips said:

“They’re saying he tossed it pretty hard. He had to throw it pretty hard to get it all the way in the street from Chief’s rooftop. Them chairs are not light, they’re probably 20 pounds, made out of stainless steel, so they say he had to throw it hard.

They just say he was being an idiot and just threw it. There really wasn’t no argument or nothing about it. Just him being drunk I feel like. He wasn’t in the right state of mind.”

Safe to say he had to be pretty drunk to think that was an okay idea. The thought of a 20 pound chair falling 60 feet onto some poor soul underneath sends shivers up my spine…

No fight, no argument, just old fashioned dumb drunk behavior? I don’t know, something still isn’t adding up here, at least for me. I’m sure we’ll get more details when the video makes its way online, which I’m sure it will sooner or later. Until then we’ll just be guessing at why he’d launch a chair off his friend’s rooftop bar.

Oh yeah, here’s the chair in question:
