Zach Bryan dedicates one to Long Island’s fallen officer.

Last week, news of Jonathan Diller’s tragic murder made news headlines everywhere as he was brutally murdered in the line of duty during what should’ve been a routine traffic stop. According to reports, Diller and a fellow officer stopped a car that was illegally parked, but as they approached, a career criminal with numerous prior arrests, who was sitting in the passenger seat, opened fire.

Diller was hit in his torso right below his bulletproof vest and passed away after being admitted to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition. More news of the upsetting death made headlines as Donald Trump attended the wake of Diller, speaking with his widow and consoling the family during their time of mourning.

Another big name also took time to pay their respects to the officer who was brutally taken too soon: Zach Bryan. During his Long Island show, Bryan dedicated “Jake’s Piano” to the officer and spoke briefly about the tragedy.

“I got some really bad news this morning. Someone told me there was an officer named Jonathan Diller who passed away in the line of duty. He was from around right here. I want to say that this is heartbreaking, and I can’t even imagine. I’m going to try my best to sing this without messing it up.

Just know that I respect and love you guys so much, and I am so sorry.”

The crowd is cheering as he makes it through the speech, acknowledging the horrible act that ended Diller’s life.

“Jake’s Piano,” a ballad that talks about losing someone you love with it being set in Long Island, was the perfect song to dedicate to Diller, remembering not only who he was but the service he provided to his community as an officer.

The whole performance is so moving, and the crowd is reverent during it. I am not going to lie: The last line of the chorus choked me up while I was watching it.

“The best parts of you are here but you’re still gone…”

While it is beyond heartbreaking to be reporting on something like this in the first place, it is moving to see the community come together in so many ways, celebrating his life and being there for his wife, child, and other family members. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Diller’s family during this time.
