The first glimpse into Joshua Quimby’s next record is here, and you don’t want to miss this one.

Titled “Big Mack Truck,” the lead single off of his forthcoming sophomore project Back Home, Quimby’s latest single is a cleverly penned ode to his Mack Truck driving grandfather, whose career took him all across the country behind the steering wheel of an eighteen wheeler. With a tight, fast-paced, honky-tonk sound that has become synonymous with Quimby’s music thus far in his nascent career as an artist, “Big Mack Truck” showcases both his own lyrical prowess and his band’s collective talent in a potent demonstration of real country music.

The Connecticut-bred and Nashville-based up and comer took to Instagram to announce the single’s release and provide brief insight into the tune.

“‘Big Mack Truck’ is OUT NOW!

The first installment of my upcoming record ‘Back Home, this tune is real special to me. Long haul truckers are badass essential workers, and deserve their fair share of recognition for the sacrifices they make day in and day out.

My Grandpa trucked for over a decade hauling goods ‘from MA to Cali-forn-i-a’ and most everywhere else around the states, too. This song here commemorates him, and every other truck driver keeping our country running.”

Well, here’s to the truck drivers. Check out Joshua Quimby’s brand new single “Big Mack Truck” here:

And while we’re at it, take a look at the rest of the tracklist for his upcoming record Back Home, and keep an eye out for more singles leading up to the May 31 album release.

If you’re not familiar with his music yet, Joshua Quimby began releasing music in January 2022, and with his uniquely deep and gravelly voice, began turning heads later that spring following the release of his eight-track self-titled debut album Joshua Quimby. Adding the These Old Jeans and Joshua Quimby | OurVinyl Sessions EPs to his catalog in 2023, amidst a slew of singles in between, Quimby continues to build upon his early work and is clearly headed in the right direction as his fan base continues to grow.

An incredible songwriter in his own right, Quimby also has drawn attention for impressive covers of songs that fit his vocal style well, such as Johnny Cash’s classic “Folsom Prison Blues” and Colter Wall’s “The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie.”

If you like what you’ve heard with “Big Mack Truck,” then make sure to mark your calendars for the full Back Home project on May 31, and in the meantime, here are a few of my Joshua Quimby favorites to hold you over.
