Sports have a knack for creating internet sensations.
Sometimes those viral moments happen with people that are attending. Like how March Madness usually results in a number of crying cheerleaders and surrender cobras from fans in disbelief.
Other times, those “I can’t believe that happened” occurrences take place on the court of field of play, like the Odell Beckham catch or a half-court-heave buzzer beater for the win. However, viral moments from both the actual sport and people in crowd rarely happen at the same event (besides maybe the Malice at the Palace).
Last night in Utah, we saw the rare scenario where something on the court went just as viral as something off the court. During a game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Utah Jazz, fans of the NBA saw one of the best dunks in the history of basketball.
Anthony Edwards posterized a Utah Jazz player, and it should immediately be crowned the dunk of the year:
That’s almost unbelievable. There has been some debate as to whether or not that’s a dunk, since Anthony Edwards threw the ball into the hoop. If you are that high up in the air to where you can do that, I’d say it was just that much more impressive of a dunk.
And speaking of dunks, a lot of people on social media started dunking on one woman who was sitting courtside during the Jazz-Timberwolves game. For no other reason than the fact that her hair looked like it had just gotten unstuck from a cotton candy machine:
Fans were talking about that moment online until Anthony Edwards decided to deliver one of the best dunks of all time. But not before some X users (formerly Twitter users) could send out some not-so-nice messages about the woman sitting courtside:
