“If I Wore Underwear I Probably Would Do It” – Alan Jackson Awkwardly Discusses His New Underwear Deal In Hilarious 1994 Interview

Alan Jackson
The Nashville Network

Why are you blushing, Alan?

Of course this isn’t the first time that we’ve seen Alan Jackson squirm. Back in the ’90s, the country star was pranked by Lorianne Crook and Charlie Chase for their show on The Nashville Network (TNN) when the hosts made him believe that he would be doing a nude scene in an upcoming movie (that didn’t really exist).

And apparently Crook & Chase just liked to see how uncomfortable they could make AJ, because another clip from their show features the “Chattahoochee” singer awkwardly trying to get through an interview about a recent underwear deal he had signed with Fruit of the Loom.

In 1995, Alan teamed up with the underwear company for his 100+ city Country Comfort Tour. And the hosts of Crook & Chase couldn’t help but tease AJ about the new partnership during an appearance on their show.

Crook read a headline from a recent newspaper article which said “Alan Jackson To Be Wearing New Briefs.” And you can immediately see Alan get uncomfortable, probably because of his past experiences with the hosts’ hijinx, but also because he knew where that conversation was going:

“So we’re starting right out.”

Oh yeah. And Crook couldn’t help but ask the question that she claimed was on all the women’s minds: Will Alan actually be modeling the product?

From there he really starts to squirm:

“Well, it took me awhile to build up all these fans that I have. I don’t want to lose ’em all in one shot.

I don’t really know. I hadn’t heard if we’re going to do that or not.”

But Chase wasn’t going to let him off that easy, and pressed him on whether he’d be willing to model the underwear. And his response left the hosts speechless:

“Well if I wore underwear I probably would do it.”

I guess that’s a good reason not to.

Crook & Chase couldn’t believe what they’d heard, with Crook asking Alan what he just said. But AJ was eager to move on:

“Yeah, go ahead.”

The whole thing was hilariously awkward…just the perfect ’90s country interview.
