Garth Brooks really does have some friends in low places.
Country fans got to learn more about Garth’s friends during last year’s 2023 ACM Awards, when Brooks and Dolly Parton co-hosted the annual award ceremony. There were a lot of highlights from the duo’s hosting gig, but none bigger than when Dolly called out Garth and made some rather personal information public.
Parton jabbed at her co-host by bringing up a recent “fun fact” she had learned. Dolly made Brooks blush when she stated that she had found out about being Garth’s “hall pass.” For those not up to date with that term, the phrase “hall pass” usually refers to a specific celebrity that a married person could, to be frank, sleep with and have no strings attached. Simply put, someone you’re allowed to cheat with. Hall Pass is also a great movie starring Jason Sudeikis and Owen Wilson… if you’re still confused, give it a watch.
When Dolly found out that Garth had a crush on her, she made sure to touch on it during the show, and also alluded to Brooks’ wife Trisha Yearwood having a similar hall pass as well:
“I saw you online telling all those nice people out there that I’m your hall pass. It’s what he said…and that I’m Trisha’s hall pass too.”
Woah, Dolly is both Garth and Trisha’s hall pass? What are the odds of that? Parton suggested that they could maybe kill two birds with one stone, and even figured out another way the acronym for GOAT could work with her next line:
“Hey! I just had a thought. I know why you’re doing that GOAT thing. I think that stands for ‘Garth Organized A Threesome.'”
Boy oh boy… as you’ll see in the video below, Garth Brooks was so red in the face that he almost blended in with the red background on stage. The country star, who is never at a loss for words, was rendered momentarily speechless as he searched for words to come back with, and finally mustered enough courage to respond to Dolly with this:
“I thought I couldn’t love you anymore.”
Here’s to hoping that this year’s ACM Awards reveal more country music threesome gossip. For now though, we can just relive this hilarious moment from last year’s.
