Jason Isbell Recalls Crew Member Farting While He Was Face To Face With Leonardo DiCaprio Filming ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’

If there’s one thing everyone in the world can agree on, it’s that farts are funny. No ifs, ands, or buts about it, when someone lets one loose, it’s pretty much impossible not to chuckle. Well… unless you’re stuck in a hot car with the windows up, but that just takes some time to look back on and laugh.

Jason Isbell recently stopped by The Daily Show, which streams on Paramount+, to talk shop with host Desi Lydic, and while most of the conversation revolved around the politics we all try to avoid, he told the story of a moment while filming Killers Of The Flower Moon that’s just too good not to share.

If you don’t have Paramount+, no worries because you can get a 7 day free trial here. From The Daily Show (with Jon Stewart back once a week), to live sports, to the Taylor Sheridan empire (featuring 1883, 1923, and Tulsa King), there’s something for you just waiting to be watched.

Let’s take it in his own words, because let’s be real, this man can spin a yarn.

“We were in this very small space and we were shooting a scene where the two of us kind of get up in each other’s face and it’s intense, you know? We’re not friends and we’re about to throw hands. And it gets really serious and we’ve been doing this for a couple of hours…

There were like 30 crew people in the room and me and Leo. The camera was rolling, the film was happening, and all of a sudden, somebody in the crew flatulated.”

Lydic then laughs and says how that’s the nicest, southern way someone could say a dude ripped a fart before Isbell continued.

“Whoever it was, you could tell that that person had lost a great battle.”

Can we pause for a second and appreciate how awesome that line is? Next time my buddy rips one in an inopportune moment I’ll be pulling that out. “Lost a great battle,” man that’s good.

“I started laughing and DiCaprio started laughing and I thought “Oh great, we’re doing one of those blooper reels” cause I’d never been in a movie before, you know? I thought “This guy farted, this is going to be great!”

And then he like, wove the laugh into his character and all of a sudden it was Ernest laughing at Bill, and I was not Bill anymore, I was a redneck laughing at a farting man.

And I realized this is why one of us has an Oscar and the other one is about a budget for an accent.”

Great stuff. Can you imagine being face to face with one of the greatest actors of our generation and you can’t contain yourself because some guy working a boom mic let a wet one fly? And what about the appreciation for Leo as an actor you tried to role with it and weave it into the scene? What a legend.

I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I’ll assume this is the scene… we see Leo sorta laugh a number of times, and Isbell does appear to be a little uneasy. Knowing he’s maybe trying to hold in a laugh (or win a great battle) could be the reason. Although, the nature of the scene itself is pretty tense.
