Darius Rucker Was Arrested For Possession Of Marijuana, “Mystery” Psychedelic Pills

Williamson County Sheriff's Office

We now know why Hootie & the Blowfish lead man Darius Rucker was arrested in Tennessee this past week.

The 57-year-old country singer’s mugshot started circulating on the internet Thursday after Rucker was booked for three separate misdemeanor charges.

He was taken to the Williamson County Jail and charged with one count of the a violation of Tennessee’s vehicle registration law and two counts of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance.

And as more information as been revealed about the incident, it actually turns out that Rucker was originally pulled over back in February of last year (2o23), and it was on Thursday when the singer/songwriter turned himself in. Why it took so long? Not sure…

In the arrest affidavit, the Franklin Tennessee police stated that officers pulled over Darius Rucker because his registration tags were expired. When the approached the vehicle, the unmistakable scent of marijuana led police to search Rucker’s car.

After searching and patting down the country music singer, officers reportedly found a blunt, what they suspected was a THC pen, and 14 unmarked pills, which Darius claimed were given to him by a romantic partner. The “Let Her Cry” singer was originally released after being pulled over because officers wanted to send off the “mystery pills” for testing. Those pills were later identified as Psilocyn, which is a magic-mushroom-like controlled substance.

Once the test results had come back, the police issued a warrant for Rucker’s arrest back in December, and it was this past week when he turned himself in.

Of course, both marijuana and psychedelics are decriminalized in places like Denver, Oakland and even parts of Michigan, in addition to a number of cities around the country but unfortunately for Rucker, Tennessee is not one of them. Can’t even smoke a joint in the Volunteer State…
